Kris honoured by Stormont visit

Kris has been honoured by a reception at Northern Ireland’s Parliament to celebrate his successful season in the World Rally Championship.

The event at Stormont was hosted by Arlene Foster MLA and North Down MLA Gordon Dunne. It recognised Kris’s victory on Rally Argentina – the first WRC rally win for a British driver since Colin McRae in 2002 – and his second-place finish on the recent Rally GB.

Foster said, ‘I would like to congratulate Kris on a fantastic season in the World Rally Championship. His performances against the best rally drivers in the world have been incredible, particularly winning Rally Argentina – his first win at World Rally Championship level. Kris is an outstanding ambassador for Northern Ireland in a country with such a rich motorsport heritage and I certainly wish him well for the future.’

‘I was delighted to be able to welcome Kris to Parliament Buildings to celebrate his success in 2015,’ added Dunne. ‘We are all incredibly proud of Kris and what he has achieved in his career to date. Kris is an excellent role model for young people and his success this year caps what has been a wonderful year for our local sporting stars.

‘To have a World Rally driver from Northern Ireland at the very pinnacle of the sport is remarkable and is testament to the skill and dedication which Kris has. Northern Ireland continues to produce many talented drivers and having successful events like the Circuit of Ireland Rally on our doorstep helps to fuel the passion of spectators and competitors alike.

‘2016 promises to be another exciting year on the local rally scene and I have no doubt that ‘The Circuit’ will be another very exciting event next year as a round of the spectacular European Rally Championship and one we can all look forward to.’
