Kris claims fourth in Corsica

Kris has claimed a solid fourth overall on the Tour de Corse, the latest round of this year’s FIA World Rally Championship. And the Northern Irishman’s result has helped his Citroen Racing team to move back into second spot in the manufacturer’s championship.

The WRC’s return to the island of Corsica proved a fraught one, with a number of stages cancelled after roads were washed away in torrential rain, and extremely testing conditions on the tests that did run. Kris and his co-driver Paul Nagle adopted a steady approach throughout, maintaining their own pace while some of the other works drivers took risks and hit trouble.

Kris found the conditions really challenging, and he felt he’d been caught out by tyre choice for at least one of the long tests – but he still managed to bring his DS 3 WRC home unscathed and in fourth spot after one of his most controlled performances of the season.

Kris said, ‘It was a difficult rally, with one-off conditions. I didn’t feel confident at the start, but the aim was above all to finish the rally without any problems. Even on the final morning, when conditions were supposedly better, we found the roads to be very slippery in places.

‘I’d say fourth place is a solid result. I would have liked to be quicker, but the points scored – both by me and by Mads [Ostberg] – are very important for the team.’

The WRC stays on asphalt for its penultimate round, the Rally Catalunya on 22-25 October.
